Personally, a community leader is someone who leads from a holistic view and serves in capacities that are others focused. A community leader also takes initiative to understand their community and desires for the community to be successful from every aspect, social class, culture, and background. A community leader represents those within the community, hears the opinions of others, and makes decisions that will benefit the entire community, and not just an individual or single group. It is easy to identify a community leaders in different realms as they are visionaries, good communicators, and good listeners. While researching Community Leaders, one organization came up called The Community Health Leaders which empowers people within the community to engage with health care systems in order to bring community together, increase access to care, give patients understanding of their rights, and teach about tools necessary to better health. When thinking of community leaders in public health, I think about the organization I am currently doing my practicum for, Community Lifespan. My preceptor, and those that lead within the company are focused on bettering health for the community and reducing health disparities from a holistic view for all people. In my practicum site, community leadership is utilized in every aspect as the goal is to bring health to low-income people and ensure that health care can be achieved. Those within this organization have a clear vision, partner with outside organizations, and have a selfless view of caring for others.
