Walden University Fragility Fractures Discussion
I need a response to the post below:
Fall prevention is a key safety indicator measure for many health care facilities. Nursing leadership provides an opportunity for frontline staff to improve opportunities to decrease falls on the unit. The model that I selected for developing the Fall Prevention Practice Experience Project consists of Plan-Do-Study-Act Cycle. The Plan-Do-Study-Act-Cycle (PDSA) cycle was invented by Walter Shewhart and was revised by Deming as the greatest improvement technique known today (Spath, P. (2018).
The Plan-Do-Study-Act-Cycle is utilized to find out if a proposed modification was successful to the cycle as a way of determining if a proposed change has actually resulted in proven positive outcomes (F. Alexander, J., Lee Warren, D., G. Williams, S., & J. McClaskey, D. (2019). The PDSA cycle can be effective in determining the direct outcomes of the process improvement implementation. Repeated monitoring of the cycle will provide real-time results on how to change processes when needed.
My facility requires a monthly Nursing Quality Meeting where data is discussed on recent falls on the inpatient units and action plans implemented to prevent patient falls. The July 2021 fall data listed 2 increases in falls incidences from the previous quarter. Nursing safety rounding was implemented to increase fall prevention measures and educate patients on utilizing call lights when using the restroom. The target goal for falls is currently 0. Our inpatient units where fall rounding was implemented regularly have shown a decrease in inpatient falls.
