Salisbury University Sociology Eriksons Psychosocial Theory Paper
Theoretical Analysis Paper (60 points)
Students will complete an analysis of their development based on a theoretical perspective presented in class. The purpose of this assignment is to help students develop a holistic approach to assessment. This assignment will help you to understand how theoretical perspectives help explain human development within the person-in-environment context. For this assignment, you will look at your own development using Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory. You will also explore your development through a multicultural perspective as well.
See the rubric in MyClasses Canvas for grading expectations.
You will begin with the first stage of this theory and pursue your development through stage 6 (young adulthood) or later, if appropriate.
You are to note and describe significant events, milestones, successes, and failures that influenced your developmental tasks in these stages. Use clear examples from your life to demonstrate your development.
Clearly describe and integrate (synthesize) the central tenets of the Erikson’s theory with the significant events in your life. It is important to reflect on the developmental issues and tasks described by the theory. Discuss to what degree you have resolved the developmental crisis at each stage.
The adolescent stage of development is a significant time in one’s developmental journey. This assignment is also asking that you focus on this time of development a bit more. You should be sure to include information on:
Your physical development (How would you have described yourself at this stage of development? Were there any challenges?)
- The formation of your identity
The exploration of your moral development
- Family relationships
Peer influences
- (On all of these, please make sure that you refer to theories discussed in your text.)
Reflect and discuss on cultural memberships and their influence on your development. You will want to expand on some of the key issues such as race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, religion. You will also want to discuss your experience and/or barriers to being raised from a multicultural perspective. This should include a critical reflection on how culture influenced your development.
- Reflect on your overall development. Summarize in a concluding paragraph or two your overall development according to a multicultural/theoretical perspective..
