for response 1Unit 9- Plastic pollution Marcus Guzman posted Nov 18, 2021 7:25 PMSubscribePrevious Next This page automatically marks posts as read as you scroll.Adjust automatic marking as read settingHello EveryoneWe all know plastic pollution has been a problem. In 2015, we produced almost 450 million tons of plastic, with that number expected to double by 2050. Less than 10% is recycled and every year more than 8 million tons make their way into our oceans. More than 80% of plastic ending up in the ocean comes from land-based activities. This includes Illegal dumping or poor waste management of trash on beaches around the globe, microplastics from cosmetic and hygiene products, or clothing in our washing machines going down the drain, industrial byproducts from improperly conducted or managed production processes. We have dealt with this issue in the past and is still an issue. One approach we used in the past is to retrieve plastic from waterways, beaches, and coastlines, which is easier than recovering plastic from the ocean itself. How environmental professionals use previous experience to respond to this issue is look at data and what programs worked and not worked. Ocean plastic pollution may be widespread, but it isn’t inevitable. Ranniger, G. (2021, November 15). Plastic pollution in the Ocean. EHN. for response 2Increased Hurricanes in the Northeast Alison Graeffe posted Nov 22, 2021 4:15 PMSubscribePrevious Next This page automatically marks posts as read as you scroll.Adjust automatic marking as read settingWhen researching environmental concerns. I came across a study predicting worsening storms and hurricanes along the Northeast cities as time contines on. the frequency and intensity of these future storms will not be able to be held off by the typical northeast winds which tends to push the storms back out to see. The sotrms’ atmospheric patterns will increase the speed which is a direct result from the warming air temperatures. This study further promotes the need for climate change research and lehigslation to reduce emissions and greenhouse gases. As time continues on, climate change will contine to wreak havoc in or weather patterns thus increasing the intensisty of these storms in places that would historically not be seen. The financial impact for both individuals and governments will be in the billions if not trillions if there isn’t immediate work being done to reduce these pollutants. Hurricanes expected to linger over Northeast cities, causing greater damage: More storms like Hurricane Sandy could be in the East Coast’s future, potentially costing billions of dollars in damage and economic losses..
