Pasco Hernando State College Racism in America Reconstruction Essay
The media for this essay is on Reconstruction and the response to Reconstruction by the (largely) southern plutocracy. Following the Civil War, three Constitutional amendments gave blacks in the south civil rights they had not had prior to the war. For about a decade, blacks could live their lives with relative prosperity–and even vote. However, southern whites put an end to Reconstruction in 1876 and “Redeemers” turned the south into a de facto slavery reboot.
The first medium is the groundwork for the following one hundred years of overt racism, and the next forty-five years of covert racism called Reconstruction. John Green makes Reconstruction sound like a total disgrace in American history. That may not be entirely true. Find the contradictions in his arguments. Cite this source as (Green-Reconstruction).

The second medium is called “The Reconstruction Amendments.” It is produced by Robert H. Smith and distributed by James Madison’s Montpelier. Cite this video as (Smith).
The third medium is one that is close to you. Since Eric Foner is a foremost scholar on Reconstruction, you may as well read what he says about it in Chapter 15 of your textbook. Cite this chapter as (Foner (with a page number)).
The fourth medium is about The Green Book, a book that was published mainly for black travelers in the US from the 1930s to the 1960s. This story, which first aired on CBS Sunday Morning, gives some idea of what life was like for blacks during the Jim Crow Era and the hostility whites in both the north and south exhibited toward blacks.
