Write 3 pages with APA style on Report on little bee by chris cleave. Running head: LITTLE BEE Little Bee Introduction The of the book, “Little Bee” sounded very childish at its release and at a later stage, was published under a different name in England. But, it is a book that carries a very unusual story filled with so much gravity, that any reader could understand the reason behind such a title. Once a reader passes through the first few pages of the book, he is bound to become impulsive and extremely addicted to the mind-boggling run of the story. The book, written by one of the famous columnists in current era, Chris Cleave, has its entire story weaved around a single incident. What the book tells about the author Chris Cleavage first published his book about a story related to terrorist bombing in a soccer match. The publishing of the book unfortunately was timed on the same day of the terrorist attacks in London and hence, raised apprehensive notions about the popularity of the book in the critiquing fraternity. But, this book has cleared all such blemishing thoughts. It clearly places Chris among the top most eloquent writers who can persuasively write stories in contrasting genres. There are so much political concepts imbibed in the book and yet one can hardly identify them, the reason being that they are told through the lives of human beings instead of concrete definitions. This point alone establishes the talent of this author. About the story The actual incident based on which the lives of two characters described in the story proceed is given only at the latter part of the book. Little Bee, the primary character, who is the focus of the book, lives with her sister and parents in one of the most mineral rich locations of Nigeria. The consequence of which is the cruelty meted to them from the people who were interested in their land. The two girls lose their parents in that incident. On the other hand, a highly successful doctor living a happy life in all aspects with her husband and son, Sarah finds herself in direct contact with this incident, during her holiday visit to this place. The entire story is then revealed about how the lives of both of them, does a U-turn. Survival instincts and an inspiring attitude of Little Bee “A scar does not form on the dying. A scar means, I survived.” – a few words from Little Bee, encompassing the entire spirit of the girl(Cleave, 2009). She is fraught with her unforgettable and torrid past, but the positive energy and the relentless attitude urges her to survive the future. But, every step of hers is taken with the caution that she may be entering into the danger of facing the Nigerian people, who previously destroyed her family. Little bee, along with her sister is forced to change names, just to improve their chances of survival. Their continuous change of locations makes them learn different languages in order to generate means for their sustenance. Though the narration suits the story, Chris, through these ideas, silently sends across a political thought about the changing lives of people in an ever changing world. A cowardice thought, troubled minds – the life of Sarah Unable to live with the thought of failing to save a family under life-threatening trouble, the once happy family of Sarah, plunges into the deep thoughts of cowardice, struggling to find daylight. Her emotions are further deepened with the suicide of her husband, who decides to end his life, because of this situation. Facing a dead end and with a lonely child, who is unable to understand the grievances at his age of 3, Sarah gets to meet up with Little Bee, turning up right in front of her door. Little Bee, escaping from detention, finds a compatriot, going through similar circumstances of different nature. The rest of the story is about the intertwined thoughts of these two characters, effectively unfolded to the readers in the most crystal clear way, by the author. The structuring of the thought process is so tightly coupled to one another that the story keeps up its solidity throughout the entire narration. The characters’ stories are told in such a way that their dark, sadness filled story-telling is always mixed up intermittently with delicate humor. At the end of the book, after several weeks of sharing their dark thoughts, the characters are trying to find the right directions in their upside turned worlds. Conclusion There is surprise, there is this unstoppable yearning of every reader to feel empathetic for the character’s stories and finally there is hope that for each and every shadow of evil, there is always an opposite light of faith and goodness that comes to the rescue. Finally, it has to be mentioned, that the book is by any means not an easy one to read, but it is one such fiction that every book lover would love to have in their personal collection.
