Subsequently, the Program seeks to offer intensive care to Otters that are recovered and wounded. thus, enabling them to acclimatize to new surroundings and conditions. The general mission can be summarized into the rescuing, treatment, provision of care and releasing of Otters that are injured or stranded back to the wild (Monterey Bay Aquarium Foundation 1).
2. In reporting a stranded Sea Otter, one follows these steps:
a. Avoid touching the Otters or catching it as one may get hurt from the animal’s bites, besides being illegal.
b. Restrain all other persons and pets from the Otter. Subsequently, avoid covering the Otter with anything like a blanket as the same may cause to overheat quickly.
c. Contact the respective agencies to report the incidence of the stranded Otter, who will then come and rescue the stranded animal.
3. A Sea Otter’s coat is unique to the sense that it is two-layered and comprises of more than one million hairs in a square inch. This coat is significant to their survival since it is what provides them with protection against extremities of the ocean life. For instance, the coat is waterproof. thus, able to provide them with insulation and good grooming in combination with the natural oils from their skin (Monterey Bay Aquarium Foundation 1).
4. The diet of a Sea Otter mainly comprises of organisms such as crabs and clams that it hunts with the help of its skin flaps beneath its front legs.
5. Current statistics shows that there is an approximate amount of 2,800 Sea Otters currently that live along the California and Big Sur Coasts.
