Other info will be upload. Is Population Growth a Problem in the World Today? The Malthusian school of thought believes that population grows at an exponential rate of 2-4-6-8-16 while our food supply grows at a mathematical rate of 1-2-3-4. Having done further research into the problem of world population and having studied the Malthusian belief, I would have to say that I agree with the Malthusian belief that population growth is indeed a problem, even in todays world of technological advances in the field of food sciences.

It is actually that technological advancement in food development and medical science that is causing our population problem more than the rate of birth world-wide. Due to the fact that medical science has created vaccines for illnesses that were used by nature in the past to balance out the population of mankind against our available resources, we have created an imbalance in our food supply due to the longer life expectancy rate among our elderly.

Since our population just recently crossed the seven billion marker, we know that the world population is in a crisis that, although not of the Malthusian Catastrophe type yet, is going to affect our overall population in the very near future. That is because even with the advances in food sciences, our increased ability to grow food, eat alternatives, and create hybrid diets will still not produce the kind of food supply that the world needs in order to prevent famine, death, and strife in the nations that do not have these advanced food making capabilities. For those poor nations, population control is still their best weapon against their lack of food supplies and other basic necessities.

As the world population continues to increase, there will be an ever increasing demand for food, shelter, electricity, and other necessary supplies. This demand may drive the prices up but it does not mean that we can provide these needs for everyone. The Malthusians got it right. Population growth must be controlled if man is to survive into the next millennium.
