Provide a 1 page analysis while answering the following question: American Sociological Association’s Code of Ethics. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide. An abstract is required. Protection of Rights of Human in Research Research on human involves several ethical issues as d in the ASA s of ethics. According to the American Sociological Association (11), the ethics include confidentiality, informed consent, and integrity of research. Hypothetical study proposed by Dr. Peter Publish violates most of the ethical standards that should be observed when undertaking a research on human subjects. One of the ethics that this proposed research would violate is the ethic of informed consent. The researcher in this case has decided to dupe the research participants briefly for the sake of the study. Moreover, it violates the ethic of confidentiality. This is because Dr. Publish has not revealed in his hypothetical research, ways that he would use to ensure that the confidentiality of the students is observed. The research would also violate the integrity required in a research undertaken on human subjects. This is because it would involve deceiving students with inflated and deflated grades. Therefore, as a regulatory body of research, we should not allow this research to be undertaken.
Code of ethics decided on any profession is very significant. This is because it helps to protect the other people involved in the profession from being exploited by the individuals practicing the profession. Moreover, they ensure that the professions provide services that are of the required standards to their subjects. Laws and ethics are two different things. Ashcraft and Ashcraft (2) defines law as rule of civil conduct that commands what is right and prohibits what is wrong. Ferrell, Fraedrich and Ferrell (6) on the other hand identify an ethic as set of rules or standards that are used to govern the conducts of members of a profession. Therefore, laws and ethics are not the same. However, one cannot be ethical while breaking the law. This is because both the law and the ethics are interconnected.
