I need a response or feedback on the below Answer:

Question: Reflect on your experience mentoring and coaching throughout the Master of Science in Leadership program. Is your capstone project connected to mentorship or coaching? Are you able to apply mentorship or coaching skills directly or indirectly to the capstone project?

Answer:  My project is all about coaching and mentoring and fortunately for me, I have been very involved in coaching and mentoring for the past 5 years! It has been challenging but so rewarding. It take a lot of effort on both sides and it is a relationship that needs to be built on trust. A few common mistakes mentors make include underestimating the mentee, thinking they are better than the mentee, and assuming full responsibility for the mentee (Singh, 2018). Underestimating the mentee seems to be the most detrimental to the mentor/mentee relationship, because it could lead to the mentee feeling discouraged and inadequate (Singh, 2018). In my experience, a mentor is someone who sees the mentee’s potential and wants to see it come out. When the mentor believes they are better than the mentee, their pride will make them lose the respect of those around them, including the mentee (Singh, 2018). It is important for the mentor to allow the mentee to make their own decisions (Singh, 2018). The mentor is not responsible for the decisions the mentee makes or molding the mentee into a copy of themselves (Singh, 2018). The mentee needs to shine in their own right, which the mentor can help encourage and guide them to for their success.

Avoiding these mistakes would enhance the relationship between the mentor and mentee, because there would be mutual respect. When the mentee knows they are supported by the mentor, the progress will be significant to their own growth and achieving their goals (Singh, 2018). There are ways for the mentor to actively take steps to avoid the mistakes, such as doing your research, focusing on your purpose, and decide to be the best mentor for the mentee (Singh, 2018). I am able to apply my coaching and mentoring skills directly to my capstone project and I am thankful that I am able to feel a deep connection to the project.
