Angela Stackhouse Learning activity 1

In the video (Church, 2012), Michael would   not be considered a transformational leader for a number of reasons.    One of the first elements required for organizational change is to first   identify the change and be able to communicate the change so that the staff   can support what is being proposed  (Gilbert, 2009).  Michael had   to be informed himself that organizational change was necessary.  In   addition to articulating the change, the leader must engage his staff at all   organizational levels.  Once change has been communicated and the leader   has engaged their team in the team, they must implement the change.    Michael felt that leaders weren’t born or made, but that they were   chosen.  He could not be considered a transformational leader because he   didn’t realize that those qualities could be cultivated and positive change   realized in his organization.

Kendall Harris Learning   Activity 2

In 2014 Walgreens was featured on a list   of the very best learning organizations. With the establishment of Walgreens   University, a considerable effort to train its entire workforce consisting of   approximately 240,000 employees. The university offers mock-drugstore, video   conferencing capabilities, regional programs, and an on-line learning   environment. Walgreens intends to provide each member of its workforce an   opportunity to further their education. The program has partnerships with   Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, University of Maryland University   College, Webster University, University of Phoenix, DeVry University, and   Keller Graduate School of Management. More than 100 courses are being offered   and employees can take advantage of tuition discounts between 10 and 25   percent (Walgreen Doubles Down on Employee Training, Opens Walgreens U,   2013).

The Walgreens leadership has developed a   vision to be competitive and expand their business. By establishing Walgreens   University, the leadership is including the workforce in the vision. The   shared vision will provide each employee an understanding of where the   company is going. Additionally, each employee is provided opportunities to   establish themselves within that vision. Walgreens is developing knowledgeable   employees, relationships, and trust within the organization. The   establishment of Walgreens University opened the lines of communication to   the workforce and enhanced collaborative learning. The establishment of   Walgreens University is likely a long-term solution for effective growth and   a worthy investment in their current and future workforce (Baldomir, 2009).
