Oak explained in his article how a soldier develops PTSD. He showed in his essay that PTSD does not automatically occur in a soldier after going to the war. The author included circumstances in the war wherein the soldier can experience deep sorrow which later develops into PTSD. In the latter part of his essay, he wrote some symptoms of PTSD and showed in the last paragraph that the effects of PTSD will worsen without proper medication.

The article is very useful for an essay because it shows how the war affects the soldiers emotionally and how it gradually results to PTSD. Although the emotional struggle of the soldiers before developing PTSD were not detailed, it still managed to show examples of the situations that contribute to the emotional stress of soldiers during the war.

3. “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.” NIMH. 26 June 2008. National Institute of Mental Health. 20 November 2008 .

The article was published in MSN which featured a study conducted by the Army that showed one out of 8 soldiers who have returned from Iraq showed symptoms of PTSD. The essay also mentioned that most of the soldiers just keep their emotional struggle to themselves because they might get kicked out of the army if they found out that they have mental illnesses.

The paper can be useful for research but it lacks evidence especially that it is a conducted study. However, the study was also conducted by the army. The study would have been better if it was done by an external body so the soldiers will be more honest with their answers.

4. Burton, Tracy. “A Soldier’s Struggle with PTSD.” Military.com. 29 March 2008. Stars and Stripes. 20 November 2008 .

Burton’s article is basically about the experience of a soldier named Brandon Garrison and how he got PTSD after going to the war. The article showed Garrison’s detailed experiences when he feels the symptoms of PTSD. He narrated his violent experiences during the war and the frightful moments that he experience whenever the symptoms of PTSD attack. The article also mentioned that the army claims that what triggered Garrison’s symptoms is not the war but a pre-existing disorder.

Although the paper is detailed and rich in information, the author only got these information from one person. The soldier’s experience might be different from the others. However, it can be used to oppose the idea that war causes PTSD but instead, it can also be caused by pre-existing conditions.

5. Lee, Yvonne. “Study: PTSD, not brain injury, may cause vets’ symptoms.” CNN.com. 30 January 2008. Cable News Network.
