Write 2 pages with APA style on Clitches of the Ghetto L. Ly. My reflections of American Suburban art always remind me of artistic works performed by JR. It is no longer a shocking scene when you walk along with some areas only to notice all sorts of illegal paintings and word arts on the walls of the building. It is a characteristic feature of youths from such areas to express themselves through large writing and images on walls. This move is normally motivated by the lack of a platform to air their views. They feel segregated and marginalized from the ruling class and the people in the higher economic cadres of the society. JR seems to be part and parcel of this group.
Analyses of the snapshots from Clitches of the Ghetto reveal a largely idle youthful generation. They are mostly composed of blacks who for a long time have been associated with financial hardships and discrimination. Evidently, they lack something to do and that is why they resort to actions such as painting on walls along the streets. JR is keen to incorporate innocent children into his art just to create an imagery of what life it is to a child born in the Ghetto. Such children are incorporated into street life at tender ages thus ending up engaging in juvenile activities.
JR and his compatriot Ladj Ly successful portray the Ghetto lifestyle for the youths. In the video of the art, the youths could be seen smoking. The painting is done using simple tools and the portraits are not colored. A feeling that one gets from the choice of black and white portraits takes one to an era where technology had not really matured. In other words, I think the choice of color represented the fact that this category of people was still backward in so far as development is concerned. Nonetheless, JR does not portray images that attract sympathy. As it is evident from the facial expressions and gestures, the youths and children seem to have mastered their lifestyle. It is a hardcore kind of a life in which they are determined to succeed no matter the resistance.
