Natasha Harrell RE: Week 6 DiscussionCOLLAPSE
Three key learnings I learned from the Skills Lab experience are: the use of evidence based practice on the micro, macro & mezzo levels, various vocabulary & terms I could use interchangeably in the social work field & self care is not only for our clients’ use but Social Workers’ use as well.
I will incorporate these learnings in my Field Experience by utilizing what I learned about the micro, macro & mezzo levels in the social work field. Micro level is based on the individual client or family and is the most common form of practice while the mezzo level is based on neighborhoods or schools and macro focuses on larger groups such as the community as a whole. I can apply what I learned in working with the various levels during my Field Experience.
There are various terms I learned during the Skills Lab Special Topic breakout session that could be used interchangeably, especially in the substance use field such as categories of drugs, their street & scientific names, etc that helped me to understand what types & names of substances that are being used that I could apply the knowledge I obtained at Skills Lab while working in my Field Experience.
I learned that self care is for everyone & should be utilized by both the clients Social Workers serve as well as the Social Workers themselves and it is vital. What the client goes through on a daily basis as well as the Social Worker is a lot and the various forms of self care I learned at the Skills Lab could be used in my Field Experience and be applied to the clients that will be served as well as myself.
