Amarillo College Marketing Cues Rewards and Routines Analysis
Part 1. First, read the following two articles:
- CB 15 (Article) How Companies Learn Your Secrets – NYTimes.pdf
- CB 15 (Article) Warning – Habits May Be Good for You – NYTimes.pdf
Part 2-A. With the above articles in mind, identify and share a routine that you have that involves a set of products/brands. Describe what this routine is, and what products/brands are involved. This could be a breakfast routine, workout routine, make-up routine, shower routine, study routine, etc. — basically, anything that has a set of actions regularly performed in a sequential manner and involves products/brands.
Part 2-B. Briefly discuss the “cues” that activate your routine, and the “rewards” at the end of your routine. If your routine doesn’t have clear “cues” or “rewards,” write what you would do to make them clearer.(Note: You can learn about “cues” and “rewards” of routines in the articles listed above.)
Part 2-C. Briefly discuss how the routine you described above relates to your current life stage (e.g., being a student, being a parent).
Part 3. Based on the articles you read in Part 1, and the routine you described and discussed in Part 2, identify and elaborate on AT LEAST two ways in which marketers can benefit from knowing about consumers’ routines and habits. Use word-by-word quotes (“…”) from the articles to support your argument.
