Choose one of the prompts below and compose a five-paragraph classical argument, following the form of classical argument you have learned and practiced this semester.  Each of these prompts require you to fill in the blank with something specific, making your own thesis, argued to a specific audience.  Take time to reflect on the thesis you wish to argue.  You can identify your audience in your introduction.  It can be anyone you like, imaginary or real.

You will need:
A meaningful introduction that will engage the audience and get them ready for the argument.
A clear thesis statement at the end of your introduction.
Clear topic sentences that announce the focus of each body paragraph.
At least two developed concrete examples per body paragraph.
Proofread, early and often, more than once.  Run your MS Word spell-checker and editor – it helps!!
 
Remember you are arguing, not merely narrating, so connect your examples clearly to your argument.
 
Choose one of the following Topic:

Format of essay: (250 words per paragraph)

Your prompt will be a question which you will answer in a sentence.  That answer will be your thesis statement which you may decide to divide into two reasons, forecasting your argument; or you can give a general answer and reveal your two reasons in the two topic sentences.  Use personal experience to write this essay.

  1. INTRODUCTION: Get your audience’s interest.  Use language and images, they will appreciate.  Restate the question in the prompt either in your title or your introduction. End the introduction with your answer to the question, your thesis statement.

Develop with EVIDENCE (evidence is your personal life examples or imaginary, concrete examples).  With each piece of evidence, explain how the evidence fits your argument.  Have at least two pieces of evidence in this paragraph.
