English homework help. Persuasive Speech – A six – eight minute Persuasive Speech

  • Use 4 x 6 note cards

The speaker acts as an advocate. The goal is not to be impartial, but it is to present one view of the facts as persuasively as possible. This speech will require considerable research and skillful use of the methods of persuasion. Special emphasis should be given to supporting evidence and reasoning.
The purpose of a persuasive speech is to convince your audience to agree with your side of an opinion, idea, or argument that you put forth.
You can produce an effective persuasive speech if you structure your presentation as a solution or with a call for action to a problem. Your first job as a speaker is to convince your audience that a particular issue is important, and then you must convince audience members that that you have the solution, method, or answer to resolve the issue.
Requirements:

  • The type of speech presented is appropriate to the assignment.
  • The topic is focused and appropriate for the audience.
  • Main ideas developed with appropriate supporting material (facts, figures, etc.)
  • Speech design is complete with an introduction, body, and conclusion, including supporting evidence.
  • Three verbal references are given.
  • The speech satisfies any specific requirements of the assignment, such as time limits, due date, and at least three references cited in speech and listed in a separate reference visual.
  • Establish eye contact, avoid distracting mannerisms, formulate a sharp specific purpose statement, and fulfill the functions of a persuasive speech.

Outline should include:
Specific Purpose
Thesis statement or Central Idea
Introduction
Transitions along with Internal Previews and/or Internal Summaries
Body – Three supports
Conclusion
The outline written in complete sentences is due in class with a Works Cited on the first day of the speeches (a minimum of three different sources are required). MLA format with in text citations, Times New Roman Font size 12, double spaced, and stapled pages are required.

Criteria for Visual Aids

  1. Visual aids have been prepared thoughtfully. (edited if necessary and point of reference is distinguished).
  2. Visual aids are clear, easy to comprehend, and visible to the entire audience.
  3. Visual aids contain only the information needed to make my point.
  4. Complied to minimum (At least four visual aids including at least one line, pie or bar graph, or chart) (In addition a reference page for a total of at least five visual aids)___________
  5. Colors choices on the visual aids work well together, and fonts are easy to read.
