One of the stereotypes about cultural anthropologists is that they are almost obsessively interested in kinship. Based on your reading of Chapter 13, why do you think this is? What are the functions of kinship in many of the smaller scale, “traditional” societies that anthropologists have studied? In contrast/comparison, what do you think are the functions of kinship in urban, industrialized societies?
