Education homework help. Assignment # 2 (100 points) – DUE: WEEK 14
The purpose of this paper is to explore a specific sport of interest to eventually create a safe, legal and ethical
plan of action to optimize performance in the selected sport. After choosing a sport to investigate, choose a
level of interest such as youth sports (childhood), high school sports (adolescents), collegiate, professional, or
Olympian. Then, complete Part I and Part II of the assignment.
Part I: Identifying Issues Surrounding Use of PED
i. Identify the physical, mechanical and mental training
requirements of the chosen sport
1. How might training requirements differ with other levels of
the sport?
ii. Discuss why an athlete of the sport might choose to use
ergogenic (legal and illegal) aids for enhanced performance
and/or recovery
iii. Identify and describe 2 PED that may be of interest to an
athlete participating in the chosen sport. (Explain why you selected these drugs). How do they
work?
1. Identify benefits and risks (side effects, ethical issues, etc.) of the aid/products selected.
2. Is there a body of evidence showing a physiological basis for action that supports the claims
made by the product(s).

i. Identification of the method- specific food, mechanical
technique or dietary supplement
ii. Type of Ergogenic effect (what type of ergogenic aide is it? Mechanical, nutritional,
pharmacological, physiological or psychological)
iii. How the method will improve performance? How might the method be administered?
iv. What type of program should be implemented? (media campaign, intervention,
testing?)
Assignment # 2 Grading Rubric: The following rubric will be used for grading Assignment # 2:
Criteria Point Value
A specific sport of interest was identified. The level of sport competition was
identified. The physical, mental and mechanical requirements for the sport were
identified. Possible difference in demands at other levels. Reasons for possible
use of ergogenic aids and/or PED were discussed. 2 PED that may be of interest
to an athlete participating in the selected sport were identified and discussed by
including the risks, benefits and legality of each PED. The student created a plan
of action for a young, developing athlete using 5 safe, legal and ethical methods
to meet the physical, mental and mechanical demands of the sport. The student
provided the name, type (type of ergogenic aid), description and use of the
methods selected to enhance performance.
