Article writing homework help. Term Research Project and Paper
Please refer to the Course Master Schedule
for due date and time of this Project Paper
Assignment
Focused on your achieving personal financial success, this research project and paper will require you to identify during your study of Module #1 a meaningful and relevant personal finance topic that is:
1. Of particular personal interest to you as being a topic that you want to learn more about,
and/or
2. One that you are personally concerned about and are looking to find a solution to a current problem or one that you want to avoid.
Once you identify such a topic, you will complete the Proposal Submission Form outlining that topic and project for my approval. Once your project is approved by me, you can then work on completing your research and drafting your paper.
Project and Report Topics
I am flexible on the topic that you choose, as long as it has a personal finance theme to it and you have demonstrated to me you have a genuine interest in learning more about the topic.
You may already have a topic that fits one or both of the parameters that I outlined above. In fact, it may be the very reason that prompted you to take this course. If so, great! Proceed to the Proposal Submission Form and see what all I require in a proposal.
On the other hand, you may not yet have a topic in mind. That is fine, in which case you will want to do some exploration and preliminary research to find something that is both meaningful and relevant and is also of interest to you now or sometime later in your life.
If you are searching for a topic, a good place to start your search is to look is at the various topics that are discussed in our text book, which is very comprehensive on the subject of personal finance. Certainly any of the main topics in the text would meet the requirement of meaningful and relevant, but only you can decide if any of those would be of sufficient interest to you and worthy of your time and energy to research and present your findings in this paper. (See Embedded Librarian discussion below.)
For example, any of the following main topics in the text would constitute acceptable topics upon which to conduct further research and exploration on your part for this assignment:
• career planning
• budgeting
• money management
• credit and debt management
• investing
• major purchases like a car or home
• insurance for your health, life and property
• retirement planning
• estate planning
If you are searching for a topic, your search should certainly not be limited to the topics above. Although those topics cover a broad area, they just skim the surface of personal finance.
Embedded Librarian
A wonderful resource that everyone should utilize in the topic selection, research and drafting of their research paper are the librarians on Miami’s regional campuses. You would be “leaving money on the table” if you did not take advantage of that excellent resource. In that regard, we are fortunate to have a librarian embedded right in this online course. You will find a link to our Embedded Librarian page on the Home page of the course web site, as well as in the Module 1 Term Research Project and Paper Proposal assignment description. On that Embedded Librarian page you will find a wealth of information regarding research techniques, topical data bases, finding tools, and directions to scholarly and other credible and authoritative resources on your topic. As noted in Grading Rubric (see Assessing Your Term Research Project and Paper below) for this assignment, in assessing the quality of your research, the expectation is clear that you will document what reflects a meaningful utilization of the Embedded Librarian in your paper. Therefore, in your Works Cited (see Citations below), you are to note which citations were gleaned from the Embedded Librarian’s resource leads.
Proposal Submission and Approval
Again, once you have selected a personal finance topic for this research project and paper, you MUST first get my approval of that topic before you can consider it a topic that will meet the requirements of this assignment. That approval is acquired by your completing and submitting a Project Submission Form on a timely basis. I will review you proposal and either approve it as originally submitted or ask that you make some changes to your proposal and then resubmit it to me (again, on a timely basis) for my consideration. Once your proposal is approved by me, you then may consider it as a topic that is appropriate for this assignment.
Personal Matters and Information
The topic of personal finance is personal. I respect your privacy. I do not want to know anything about your personal finances that you do not want me to know. However, I also want to help you achieve your personal financial goals. It can be a delicate balancing act to both respect your privacy and provide help. I do not want you to feel pressured to or uncomfortable about discussing anything regarding your own personal situation, either in this specific assignment or in the course in general. You be the judge as to what you feel is appropriate in this regard as you communicate with me.
Assessing Your Term Research Project and Paper
To provide you with further insight as to how I will assess the quality of your work, I have provided a Grading Rubric that will guide me in my review of your paper. It is organized and weighted by major assignment category and provides for varying degrees of accomplishment. I believe you will find this helpful.
Research and Report Preparation Matters
Quality and source of information –
One of the purposes of this research assignment is to get you acquainted with credible and authoritative sources of financial information. Therefore, you are expected to use a wide variety of resources beyond just Internet blogs and social media postings. For example, you should be researching sources like the Wall Street Journal, Money Magazine, Fortune Magazine, The Economist Magazine, Kiplinger Personal Finance Magazine, Consumer Reports Money Adviser, and current authors like Suze Orman and Dave Ramsey. Of course, you must not overlook the Miami regional campuses’ research librarian services! (See Embedded Librarian above.)
It is expected that resources available from the Internet will be part of your research approach. That being the case, you should rely only on information obtained from mainstream sites like those sponsored by the well-established and respected organizations and publications and note the date you extracted the information from the Internet in your Works Cited page (below).
Although an excellent study course study tool, your course textbook is deemed to be of very low research value and should not be quoted as a research resource in your paper.
Citations –
Citation of material that is borrowed, whether a direct quote or a paraphrase of ideas, must be appropriately documented and incorporated into the body of your paper (author’s name and publication year in a bold parenthetical notation) so that it is clear what specific content has been borrowed. Such information must be cited properly to avoid plagiarism, and detailed in a “works cited” page. This includes any and all information obtained from Internet sources. Either the APA (American Psychological Association) or the MLA (Modern Language Association) citation style may be used for your Works Cited page at the end of your report. In that Works Cited page, you are to note which citations were gleaned from the Embedded Librarian’s resource leads (See Embedded Librarian above.)
Use of captions –
To facilitate the reader’s understanding of your report, it is required that you organize your report by specific topic (e.g., like the assignment outline above), and introduce each new topic with a caption in bold font.
Mechanical requirements –
• Type: Use a 12-pitch font, like the one you’re reading now. Double-space your report, using standard margins.
• Length: minimum five full pages of descriptive narrative, excluding a cover page, Works Cited page, and any supplementary graphs, charts, tables, spreadsheets. All graphs, charts tables, spreadsheets and the like are to be positioned immediately following the main body of the paper, and not embedded within the body of the paper. Please number all of your pages.
• Cover page: On your report cover page, just put your name and the date on the upper-right corner. Center the title of your research paper on the cover page.
Due dates –
• Proposal – check your Course Master Schedule for the due date and time of your completed proposal using the Proposal Submission Form.
• Final Project Paper – check your Course Master Schedule for the due date and time of your final project paper prepared in accordance with the above specifications.
GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY!
