- Follow these guidelines to develop the annotations for each of the SIX sources.
- Cite the sources, using MLA Works Cited entry format. Review the Owl MLA for Web Blogs (Links to an external site.) (http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/08/ (Links to an external site.)) to make sure your citation is accurate.
TIP: The library database articles include the ability to make Works Cited. You can cut and paste them into your paper. Make sure you select the MLA form of citation.
- Understand the central idea of what the expert is saying.
- Note down the main points that the expert is making to support his/her central idea.
- Develop a brief (100 word) summary of the whole article.
- From the main points, identify and evaluate those points that are relevant for your position on the topic and summarize them. You should use paraphrasing, direct quotations, and summaries to integrate the evaluation of these points into your essay. Review Paraphrase, Summary & Precis

- Note down how you think the points support your argument. Your notes should look like this:
- MLA citation of the Topic
- Position
- Summary of the article
- Main point # 1 and evaluation of the points
- Main point # 2 and evaluation of the article
- Main point # 3 and evaluation of the article
- Do these main points support your position?
NOTE: The annotation itself will NOT be in bullet points. It will be in a paragraph. This outline is only to help you keep your focus as you are planning the annotated bibliography.
- Put the six annotations in ONE document, formatting it according to an Annotated Bibliography page. Check this sample bibliography (Links to an external site.) (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/02/ (Links to an external site.)) from Purdue OWL. In addition, please remember:
- The citations must be listed according to alphabetical order and must follow the conventions of Works Cited.
- The citation must be followed by the annotation, which must be single-spaced and about 150 words long.
