As a developer who is familiar with these kinds of processes, I do believe that this kind of data is accurate enough to be used as a baseline to solving company challenges. Companies before switching over to ERPs would encounter issues internally in which had potential to be streamlined. As someone who has worked with Microsoft Azure, I can see why Walmart would use Azure for warehousing and streamlining other ERPs.
- What are the benefits, if any, of utilizing case studies in decision making?
Utilizing case studies helps users understand what are the core functions of ERPs and how companies have taken advantage to improve their processes overall. Showing examples from familiar companies mentioned in the case studies helps proving the case that ERPs do work, and how can they be utilized to their full potential. It helps tech professionals understand why they need these tools and how it can help them in their current company that may be facing similar challenges.
- What were the results of the system implementation that addressed the issues identified in the article?
Fuze drinks was able to resolve their inventory issues by identifying expired products. Due to this, they were able to minimize on waste management, improve their inventory processes, and improve their profit by circulating their products to avoid waste. It opened up the communication channels as well, since now there was an end-to-end automated communication between suppliers and customers and made their supply chain inventory management much easier to manage. Alongside with real-time analytics and monitoring services, Fuze drinks was able to focus more on their core businesses and leave the inventory process, manufacturing, and account management to the ERP system.

Do you believe that the data in these kinds of case studies is accurate?
I believe that the data in case studies as outlined in the case of Walmart, or Fuze Energy Drinks, is accurate. The reason why I believe it to be accurate, is because the business problems solved by implementing new system elements, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), coincides with everything I know about systems, and their impact on organizations. For example, Fuze Energy Drinks reportedly uses inventory modules in a web-oriented ERP to deduce which products are likely to be needed in the future, then automates orders based on this data. Then, the insights gained from their system allow for manufacturing to occur based on ordering data. What shows this type of data to be accurate in the case of Fuze, is the fact that their manufacturing and supply-chain is based on historical data, and successfully projects future needs based on this data.
What are the benefits, if any, of utilizing case studies in decision making?
There are several benefits to utilizing case studies in decision making as an organization. First, many businesses, while different, share common denominators, and encounter similar logistic difficulties. Seeing how a successful business utilized systems to solve one of these issues affirms the problem-solving strategy. Then, case studies are often peer-reviewed and thus carry more credibility than anecdotes. Generally, case studies are useful for gaining insight into a complex problem, or multi-variant scenario.
What were the results of the system implementation that addressed the issues identified in the article?
The issues Fuze stemmed from a lack of automation. Products were going bad, with no tenable way to track the “sell by” or expiration date for all products, all of the time, without using old-fashioned logistics. Then, they experienced disconnects between manufacturing, and real-time sales, which caused both the expiration-inventory issue, and under-stock for certain items. By using an ERP and automating their customer-interactions to a greater degree, utilizing the data they were generating with every order and sale, Fuze Energy Drinks was able to automate orders, project sales, and carry the correct items, for the correct amount of time, with greater accuracy. All of these factors contributed to Fuze creating a more customer-centric and pleasurable experience, from the perspectives of both consumers, and employees.
