The National Association for Multicultural Education website
There were several strengths to this website that I found. I liked the simple and easy to use platform that was displayed, I liked the fact that they described who the board of directors, the events that have happened in the past, you can easily find the chapter in your area, there different ways to access different audiences to name a few. Some weaknesses that I found with this website was that there were little visual effects, would have been nice to have more pictures and videos and more voices from the members on what they have to say about these issues.
One initiative that I liked reading about was the logo and the meaning about it. I seemed drawn to the logo and learning about the reason why the put each detail into it. During World War Two the Nazis persecuted many different groups of people for different reasons and were forced to wear different symbols to recognize the. The red triangle in the logo represents the “Wrong Thinkers” who were the individuals who were persecuted for their differences in political or religious views. The NAME is used to represent those who do not have a voice and they are committed to standing up for them and representing them so they can be heard. The Sankofa bird originates from Ghana, which means to learn from the past in order to build a more efficient future. This logo helped me to realize that there are different groups of people that were and are being persecuted for their differences but we should help stand up for them and help them to be heard and to not ne judged.
The National Organization for Women website
There were several strengths to this website that I found. I liked that this website reaches their audience through several social media platforms, you can donate to their cause, there are several core values that they discuss in great detail and they do have current events about what is going on in their community. Some weaknesses that I found include some information seems to be outdated like their blogs were from 2015 or older, it seems as though they only support one candidate or only one sided on certain issues and they do have some cookies on their website as well.
One initiative that I liked reading through was the Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Women’s Suffrage. I am a history major and I enjoyed reading the short honoring their history and learning about the exhibits and events that are occurring this year in honor of women’s suffrage. I learned that it was a close vote and the crucial vote came down to the man named Harry T. Burn who voted in favor for women’s suffrage after his mother kept pleading with him. The initiative for women’s suffrage began in 1776 but it wasn’t until the late 1800’s was when women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony and others organized and joined the movement to get the issue across. There are events happening around the country honoring the passage of the 19th Amendment and an example of an event includes the National Archives Museum in Washington D.C. The National Archives has an exhibit “Rightfully Hers: American Women and the Vote.” This exhibit shows the original 19th Amendment, examples of protest and actual proof of women voting for the first time.
