Of the two points of presented in the premise I have to side with opinion that students should live up to high expectations and the student should receive the grade that was earned.  In the trend known as grade inflation there is evidence that are teachers that grade on curve making sure a certain percentage of class gets a particular grade is not really representative of the learning taking place in class (Berkley, 2010).  Allowing students get what they earned can should reflect on how well that subject was covered and may need to be re-taught.  This also gives the students clearer understanding of there strengths and weaknesses. The teacher should also allow for students to redo assignments. Building a students’ academic confidence should come competence, the student knowing that they can learn the material.

The frequency of how many students have been receiving A’s over the years has increased, it has been shown that some classes are taken just to receive that grade (He, 2012). With constant pressure that is put on students to do well school and get good grades, it is surprising that these results seem unexpected.  In American society the focus is placed on the results not what struggle that got to those results.
