One situation in the past was when my manager was upset that I did not double check the work of one of my coworkers. She felt that it was my responsibility because I followed that person. I disagreed because if I had to double check everything that person did, then I would not be able to do my job. The situation did not involve a patient, so nobody was at risk of harm. I would say we used compromising. We listen to each other’s opinion, take some time apart to think, and then discussed a plan to prevent the coworker from making the mistake and a plan for me to double check in a timely manner. Though we may not have been happy at the beginning of the day, by the end of the day we both felt good about the plan. Knowing how to resolve conflicts is important for nurses. A nursing school in Korea, participated in a study regarding conflict resolution. Half of the senior class participated in a conflict resolution training program while the other half did not. The results showed that the students who participated in the training program had a significantly higher ability to resolve conflicts than the students who did not (Choi & Ahn, 2021).

2. I do not think I would have handled it the way she did. I still feel that the situation should have been addressed more towards the coworker instead of with me. If the problem is truly corrected with the coworker, why would I need to double check her work. I would have talked to the other employee and discussed why the situation happened and I would have asked if there was something I could do to help prevent it from happening again.

3. At my current job, I am responsible for ordering supplies. At times I feel stuck in between nursing instructors and the Dean. The Dean focuses on saving money and staying on budget while the nursing instructors want certain supplies to mimic the clinical setting as close as possible. Recently, I ordered the cheaper angiocaths at half the cost other angiocaths. Once the instructors saw them, they expressed their concern with them and did not want to use them. I pulled them out of the supply room to return them. I was not able to return all of them because some of the boxes were already opened. Thankfully the disagreement regarding the angiocaths only lead to the loss of around $200.
