I’m working on a Nursing exercise and need support.
The project I am completing on cardiac monitoring for volunteer firefighters is the largest gap that I have found. There is fragmented data available on the topic of cardiac disease in volunteer firefighters and I have found no research on actual large-scale screening of departments (Martin et al., 2019). Part of this lack of data is that we, as volunteers, are and are not employees at the same time. We have workman’s comprehension coverage for illness or injury sustained on duty but receive no monetary compensation. Little has been done to study as there is little fiscal gain to be had from this particular patient cohort, as there is a plethora of confounding factors when dealing with volunteer firefighters, as by their nature all have other lives and other careers. These include lack of exercise and fitness, occupational exposures from full-time careers, and frequent lower compliance with health and safety measures .
