Student #1: One major issue that I see everyday as a nurse is the lack of transferable data between health care agencies and professionals. All too often when I am admitting patients and asking for their history, they will give me an extremely broad answer of what surgical procedure they have had, what type of implant they have gotten, of have no idea at all. Always following up with the same statement it was done at such and such hospital, you do not have that information? When people change providers, facilities, or health care coverages many times their health records do not go with them and we must rely on self-reporting to reconstruct their records. This leads to vital information being unknown and endangers the patient in care. (Sullivan, 2020) Any candidate House or Senate I am sure would want to support a bill that requires a generalized form of communication for example the patient submits a form to their previous provider on where they will be receiving healthcare and that provider must forward all the information he or she has on that patient.
Student #2: Racism has been institutionalized in a way that permits the establishment of patterns, procedures, practices and policies within organizations that consistently penalizes and exploits people because of their race, color, culture or ethnic origin (Institutional Racism in the Health Care System, 2019). The system of racism affects the attitudes, beliefs and behaviors of one individual towards another (personally-mediated) as well as how individuals perceive themselves (Institutional Racism in the Health Care System, 2019). Racism has been a growing issue is the past year where people are being abusive to Chinese people because of Covid or the issue where Black lives matter. In a health care setting we judge the patient coming in even if its not intentional and it can affect how they receive care or they have an issue with you. I worked in a lab where a Caucasian women came in and asked for the colored girl just like that. The girl took offense as to being called colored being that she could have used anything else. The girl took her back and on purpose missed her vein causing her to stick the lady twice being that the lady didn’t like needles. The lady remained quiet while she was doing her job she knew that it had offended the girl but never apologized or came back. Elizabeth Warren a senator from Massachusetts stated “I think that racism is a serious problem in this country” (“2020 Democrats on Racism,” 2020). I might support Elizabeth Warren by supporting her and spreading her message to others that might not know about it.

Student#1: Vulnerable populations in society comprise those individuals who are at a higher risk for limited healthcare access, poor health status, and also encounter significant disparities in life expectancy and even high morbidity and mortality rates. They include the children, older adults, the disabled, and the poor. There are many local, regional, or international organizations across the world that serves vulnerable populations. One of them includes the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). This organization is dedicated to helping disadvantaged children around the world to survive and thrive. It is has extended to over 190 countries and territories, worldwide. It addresses health issues such as HIV prevention, poor nutrition, and sanitation-related issues. It also protects children from violence-related injuries and health problems (UNICEF, n.d).
The vulnerable population can access various services from this organization. They include immunization services, such as vaccines and public education, which help protect them from vaccine-preventable diseases and help reduce newborn or child deaths and other health issues affecting children (UNICEF, n.d). Secondly, the organization works to improve access to high-impact health and nutrition for children and mothers. It delivers nutrition supplies to support the growth and development of healthy children (UNICEF, n.d). Thirdly, UNICEF ensures children in various areas globally have access to safe water and proper sanitation (UNICEF, n.d). Lastly, the organization works to protect children and adolescents from violence and exploitation.
UNICEF operates through country offices around the world and regional offices. The offices run during normal working hours for six days a week and close on weekends and holidays. Disadvantaged children can visit or contact their local offices or access the organization through organizational leaders such as school managers, healthcare professionals/ managers, and community leaders. The organization gets its funding from governments. It is also funded through the voluntary support of millions of people globally, the private sector, and civil society (UNICEF, n.d).
UNICEF’s staff comprises healthcare professionals such as public health nurses, social workers, community health workers, midwives, and volunteers. These healthcare professionals perform various roles to improve children health (UNICEF, n.d).
Student #2: Vulnerable populations include patients who are racial or ethnic minorities, children, elderly, socioeconomically disadvantaged, underinsured or those with certain medical conditions. Members of vulnerable populations often have health conditions that are exacerbated by unnecessarily inadequate healthcare (Waisel, 2013).

They provide specialty trained staff to care for your loved one, that consist of registered nurses, social workers, activity directors and nursing assistants. They specialize in Alzheimer’s disease and adults with disabilities such as cerebral palsy (my sister with cerebral palsy attends this daycare). The hours of operation include Monday-Friday from 0730 to 1730 and provide van transportation from the client’s home to the daycare daily. The day care is non-profit with its own fully licensed kitchen. They accept all insurance and provide affordable payment plans. Beyond providing social opportunities, an adult day service can serve as a safe and familiar place for your loved one to receive health services. The service’s programs can encourage your loved one to spend time with others, and supervised activities might improve daily living skills (“Joes Club”, 2019)
