o The date range is from 5000 B.C.E. to 1648 C.E.
o The art must be within the context of Western Civilization.
o Any type of art is acceptable.
? Some examples are paintings, sculpture, murals, pottery, tapestries, etc.
o Make sure to know the date of the art/architecture so you can write about how it
represents the era it was created- art with an anonymous artist/architect is
acceptable.
? Conduct research on the art/architecture and the era it was created
o The research does not have to be extensive, but give you enough information to
write with authority on your selected art/architecture.
o Make sure to save any information needed to cite the sources.
o Use only academic sources- not Wikipedia or blogs.
? Write the paper and post it on Canvas before the due date/time
o Start with an artistic analysis that describes the art/architecture selected.
? This is especially important since you will not be posting an image
o The rest of the paper will be an explanation of how the art/architecture is
representational of the time it was created.
? Make sure to know the difference of when it was created versus the time
the art represents. (example: The painting the Last Supper shows the time
that Jesus lived, but it was painted during the Renaissance therefore you
should be writing how it represents the Renaissance.)
