Using two or three of the stories we have read from Bloodchild thus far, write a comparative response in which you focus on how the stories treat a similar theme, such as the complexities of interpersonal communication, the power of love and its relation to hope, or the accommodations that are required to survive and/or thrive in a specific situation. Each of these themes is present in the three stories “Bloodchild,” “Speech Sounds,” and “Amnesty.” Feel free to tailor the common theme in any way that works best for you. (Do NOT write about all the themes I listed above. Choose ONE theme to examine in relation to at least two of the stories.)

Don’t forget about the titles of the stories. They have lots of information in them.

• The reading response is not a formally structured paper with an introduction and conclusion. It is two or three or even four paragraphs, without a formal introduction or conclusion, that gets right to the point of the analysis.
• Responses should be approximately two pages in length (they can be longer, but not shorter!), double-spaced, using 12-point font in Times New Roman style. Review the MLA formatting requirements for this class in Module 1.
• Focus your analysis by using correctly cited textual evidence to illustrate your understandings. Textual evidence means using direct quotations. (Don’t forget in-text citations for each quote and works cited entries at the end of your response.)
• Significant or repeated errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and other syntactical elements and/or MLA format will reduce your score on these assignments.
