1-The video titled “without sanctuary” is very disturbing to watch and heart-touching to hear the narrator. The satisfied smiling faces of the white people with the Black dead bodies are so brutal. Those pictures of hanging dead bodies were photographed and sold as the postcard. It’s miserable to know that people had treated so cruelly because of the only “crime“, born as the Black. The short film, “the birth of a nation” is very misleading and represents Blacks as not qualified and educated enough to run governmental work. The film shows that the Blacks look down on the minority White, and do not pay attention to the work rather do silly things during an important time. After reading the book, “Lie my teacher told me”, I came to know that: The book “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” present slavery as an evil to be opposed, on contrast, “Gone with the Wind” suggests that slavery was an ideal social structure whose passing to be lamented. Since the civil rights movement, history textbooks start to describe the slavery issue very lightly and tries to use positive terms to describe many brutal situations.

2-The five things that I learned about “lies my teacher told me”

1. Many Spaniards and blacks died due to disease in the first few months

2. Over many years the white kept changing the story about the enslavement of the blacks

3. No genre of the populations culture went untouched by race

4. Lots of Northern whites were unhappy by what their nation had been doing against idealism

5. The civil rights movement demolished segregation as a formal system

From watching “birth of a nation” it seemed as if they were just trying to show they whites that blacks would never be good enough for them to become a congressman. For the blacks would be presented to the whites as a comedy show. This relates so much to “without sanctuary” because when the whites would hang the blacks they acted like it was just an everyday job and that the black was just some little thing. It was disgusting that whites thought that they could kill an inoccent person just for the fun of it.
