Using the articles “Changing Race,” by C. Rodriquez (in the Readings folder), “Notes of a White Black Woman,” by J. Scales-Trent (in the Readings folder), and the news articles and video on Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra (found at the end of PART I), do the following:
Use information from Changing Race (required) and Notes of a White Black Women (required), and the news articles and video to discuss how the construction of race is arbitrary. Think about how skin walking and the arbitrary construction of race applies to Priyanka Chopra, as she moved from being a Bollywood actor and star, to Hollywood, where there are so few Southeast Asian actors. In the articles about Priyanka Chopra, think about the significance of skin color and how it is valued in one place, and not in another.
