In addition, just 0.7% of the world’s forests are coastal mangroves, yet these critical ecosystems store up to 10 times as much carbon per hectare as tropical forests. Still, according to the Climate Policy Initiative, nature-based solutions receive only 3% of all global climate funding (Conservation International, 2021). So, opportunities exist not only to protect the rainforests, but also to target conservation efforts on the coastal mangroves in order to more effectively steward creation for long-term sustainability.
