For this assignment, I’ll be asking you all to watch a Caribbean writers panel that Marlon James (the author of The Book of Night Women) participated in. After watching, I ask that you prepare a 1.5 – 2-page double-spaced response paper that identifies at least two waysthe panel resonated with, advanced, complicated, or otherwise enriched your understanding of The Book of Night Women. You must illustrate your points using brief, but relevant quotations from the panel itself and specific references to the characters, events, and themes of the novel. Your paper will be assessed according to the quality and specificity of the connections you draw to the novel. For example, excessively generalized connections will not earn credit (i.e. – “This panel just generally made me think about the struggles Caribbean writers face”), while specific connections will earn credit (i.e. – This panel enriched my understanding of the symbolic importance of the Western canonical literary references–such as the recurring references to Joseph Andrews–in The Book of Night Women.”)
