Good evening class! After analyzing these 3 website’s, what I gathered was that employment laws play a significant role in governing the rights and duties between employers and workers. Employment laws are based on federal and state constitutions, legislation, administrative rules, and court opinions. What stood out to me the most was that some employee benefits are required by law, but others are optional (SBA,2021). Many employees don’t know that leave benefits are required by law, as well as disability insurance and unemployment insurance. I have worked in the healthcare industry for over 10 years. I’ve had the opportunity to work in multiple hospitals, physician offices, home health agencies, and unfortunately I have seen multiple managers denying other employees paid leave time, or even offering disability insurance when by law, it was required! What’s wrong with today’s society is that most people are not educated of their employee rights. Many individuals put their trust in there employers and will just believe anything they tell them because an employer is always considered morally “right”. Research has shown that most employees are afraid to speak up from themselves because of the chance of being terminated. Whether it was a manager denying requests, holding paychecks, not approving time off, employment law can be confusing and it can be difficult to learn what your rights are and what you are entitled to.
