The Problem:
A new quarry has been proposed for development near your home. As a
concerned citizen you are determined to make sure that the least amount of environmental damage occurs from the development. If the impacts from the quarry are determined to be too detrimental then the project will be rejected.
For this Perspective, consider that each member of your group is a local concerned citizen (and coincidentally an environmental scientist). Each member of the group will explain one different biophysical impact (e.g. wildlife, water, soil, etc.) that this quarry might have on the local and regional environment. You should coordinate between the group members before you post your final response on who in the group is doing which impact (an important component of community involvement in environmental issues is communication and teamwork). Your posting should include a paragraph that describes the possible impacts a quarry would have on your specific topic of the local environment (e.g. habitat loss).
Posted below are links to several examples of quarries which include a short discussion of the environmental impacts, as well as citizen involvement that could help you for this Perspective.
