I’m studying for my Chemistry class and need an explanation.

1) Choose an infectious disease to which there is a vaccine readily available ( Polio)

2) Research and include all of the following in your presentation: (Make sure each section is clearly labeled)

• Abstract – A glimpse of what is yet to come, a brief summary of the purpose, key methods, results and interpretations of the study or presentation.
• Epidemiology – Who is at risk for developing this disease? Describe mode of transmission, historical and present incidence, prevalence and mortality.
• Etiology and Pathology – Describe classic signs and symptoms, and course of disease.
• Prevention and Treatment – Explain how the disease is prevented. What is the typical treatment? Side effects of treatment?
• Laboratory Diagnosis – What are the laboratory assays that are utilized in the diagnosis of this disease? How reliable are they? What is the likelihood of a misdiagnosis?
• Vaccine – What is the vaccine like (type of vaccine)? What are its cost, risks, and benefits? Why are the “anti-vaxxers” opposed to use of the vaccine? Does the benefit of vaccinating outweigh potential risks? Should medical practitioners promote vaccination? Should it be mandatory for society? Be sure to include charts, graphs, photographs and specific data to tell your story and make your case.
