College of DuPage Archimedes Principle to Determine Density Lab Report
-
Archimedes Principle Lab
Archimedes Principle LabThis week, we will be performing an online lab on the Pivot Interactives website, where we apply Archimedes principle to determine the density of several unknown metal samples.First, review the Intro video:Then, review this example problem which shows how to use Archimedes’ principle to determine density:And finally, Complete the Pivot Lab Activity, which can be accessed by clicking the link in the item below this one.
TIP: The scale in the Pivot video is not giving Tair and Twater (Newtons) values like my example problem did – instead, it’s giving grams-in-air and grams-in-water. To get from grams to Newtons:- divide by 1000 (to convert the grams to kilograms)
- multiply by 9.8 m/s/s
Density of Precious Metals by Immersion (by Archimedes) PHY121
Students will use the concept of buoyancy to determine the density of metal samples
