Broward university The Role an Organism Plays in A Community Discussion Responses
1. Please provide evidence supporting or refuting the following statement: Humans consume microbes every day with little health risk. Yes, the statement is absolutely correct because we consume a lot of foods which is rich in microbes. For example, we will eat curd which contains a lot of bacteria called lactobacillus. We will consume it but there is no risk in fact it is advantageous. the advantages are it may reduce high cholesterol, it may prevent and reduce diarrhea, it can help with bowel movement, it can help treat and prevent vaginal infections and promote weight loss. The disadvantages of consuming microbes are bloating, gas, and nausea. So indeed advantaged outdate the disadvantages.
2. The term “niche” describes the role an organism plays in a community. A species’ niche encompasses both the physical and environmental conditions it requires (like temperature or terrain) and the interactions it has with other species (like predation or competition). An ecological niche is a role and position a species has in its environment; how it meets its needs for food and shelter, how it survives, and how it reproduces. A species’ niche includes all of its interactions with the biotic and abiotic factors of its environment. For example, the rare Kirtland’s warbler (Setophaga kirtlandii), a small songbird of North America, has a very limited niche. It nests only among young jack pine trees (Pinus banksiana), which require periodic wildfires for their seeds to germinate. In this environment, one of the species interactions it must contend with is nest parasitism by the brown-headed cowbird (Molothrus ater). Cowbirds lay their eggs in nests built by other bird species and these host birds then incubate and raise the cowbird’s young, often at the expense of their own babies.
