ASTR 112 Grossmont Collage Exploring the NASA Exoplanet Archive Lab Report
Some background:
- Video (~2 min) on the “habitable zone” (Links to an external site.)
- https://exoplanets.nasa.gov/ (Links to an external site.) – more information on exoplanets that you could possibly need!
Lab Activity:
This week we are going to access the NASA Exoplanet Archive maintained by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (Pasadena, CA).
To save us the complexity of filtering the table of more than 4000 exoplanets, we shall all share an account login and password to access the database, so that we can all view the same subset of planets with known masses, sorted into ascending order.
Do not change any of the settings for this account or you will mess it up for other students – and your activities on the site are monitored. However, don’t be concerned about corrupting the database – after the activity you are free to explore the filtering and sorting options that affect what you see – the NASA database itself will not be affected by your choices, and the next student will see the original configuration when they log in.
I will be attachment the worksheet/assignment as well.
