Green Book Movie Media Analysis Non Conventional Friendship & Relationships Essay
This essay is fairly open-ended; you may choose any media object (film, television show, book, pop star, video game, internet sensation, social media platform, cultural practice, etc.) you like, as long as you are engaging with our course’s ideas about media and culture. The goal here is to apply three analytical lenses we’ve discussed in this class to some object that you’re passionate about. (That is, methods from three different weeks across the quarter.) There are many ways to be passionate—celebration, condemnation, or anything in between—but the most interesting essays will be those that explore some kind of complexity and contradiction, and that leave evaluative notions of quality or success at the door. (Is this media object really entirely problematic, or entirely liberatory, for example? My guess is no! And is it good/bad, or of high/low quality, or well/poorly made? I don’t care! And neither do you!) You may deal with a single text, or you may compare and contrast two different texts; I wouldn’t recommend trying to tackle more than that in a paper of this length.
(I choose the movie “Green Book”.)
