For this assignment you will first need to read over the 11 subscales of learning activities found on pages 47-67 of the ECERS-3. Be sure to read the notes for clarification as well. Once you feel you have a good understanding, I want you to determine 1 material used in free choice for each subscale and describe how a care giver would interact with that child and that material in order to earn a 7 for that subscale. For example:

Item 17: Fine motor

The material I would choose for this subscale is markers and pencils. These items would be placed in my Writing Center. Children would have access to the Writing Center for at least 1 hour per day. The care givers in this class would initiate conversations with children using the markers and pencils by saying things such as “Tell me about your drawing”, “Do you know how to use the eraser” and “What other colors do you need to finish your card”. Markers and pencils will be stored separately in easy to open containers with a corresponding picture for easy clean up. Children will be reminded to put lids on their markers so they won’t dry up and teachers will demonstrate how to do this.

You will need to write a paragraph like the above example for each of the 11 items. Remember, you want to score a 7, so make sure you show how your activities meets all of the criteria.
