Octavia E. Butler’s novel, Parable of the Sower, operates on several themes or key ideas. Two are feminism and the breakdown of a stable, democratic society. Choose one of these themes and apply it in analyzing the novel. Include in your analysis at least one other literary element (symbolism or conflict might work well.) I suggest, if you choose feminism, that you look at the hero’s journey and how this novel places a girl where usually we would find a boy or young man.
