Octavia E. Butler’s novel, Parable of the Sower, operates on several themes or key ideas. Two are feminism and the breakdown of a stable, democratic society. Choose one of these themes and apply it in analyzing the novel. Include in your analysis at least one other literary element (symbolism or conflict might work well.) I suggest, if you choose feminism, that you look at the hero’s journey and how this novel places a girl where usually we would find a boy or young man.

Antigone contains several important themes: justice, leadership and fate are just three of them. Choose ONE of these and analyze the play, applying your ideas about the theme you choose. Include in your analysis one or more of these: climax, conflict and symbolism.
Once you have found sources that help you to support your thesis statement, follow the guidelines here to write an annotated bibliography. However, the example given here is too long for me. Write one paragraph that describes the source and explains in a couple of sentences how you will use it.
In the same document, write your introductory paragraph. Underline your thesis statement, which you should place as the last sentence in your introductory paragraph. Remember: your introductory sentences introduce your thesis statement, and your thesis statement introduces your essay.
