- Examine how Cold War policy by the main players affected the smaller nation.
In Cuba, the Cold War policy was affected by the pain players in a few different ways. One major way that it affected Cuba was that the president of the United States, John Kennedy, wanted to overthrow the leader of Cuba, Fidel Castro. This brought Cuba and Russia within reach of each other and Russia began to instal missiles in Cuba, leading to the Cuban Missile Crisis (Duiker, 2015). The issue here was that Cuba was such a small country falling victim to such large and powerful countries that they were defeated and demolished to the point of almost nothing.
- Examine why democracy was not successful in that nation.
The democracy of this country was completely turned around by Fidel Castro when he used his extremist ideas to turn the minds of the Cubans. He convinced them that they could have equal and fair access to health care, giving ownership of land rights back to the citizens, and banning racial discrimination. He quickly convinced them and then turned into a dictator following the ideals of communism.
- Describe the loss of personal liberties that were a result of democracy failing.
Democracy failed when Fidel Castro turned into a dictator and used communism to lead the country. He took away the individual rights of everyone and he ended up not able to properly provide for them. People were not fed enough food and many even ended up dying. The leader stripped them of their rights and they were not even being provided with proper living conditions. Because the country was led into an economic crisis, they had no resources to take care of the people who were forced to rely solely on the government.
- Has the nation’s political system changed since the Cold War? Explain.
After the Cold War ended, Rual Castro became the leader (brother of Fidel) and the ways of the country were changed drastically. After this, Cubans began to gain back freedoms as individuals owning their own things and providing for themselves (Moreno, C., 2014).
