Summary and Practice

Review the structure of the RACE answer.

R – restate the question using the question stem to write your topic sentence.

A – Answer the question (use connectors to link the topic sentence or to write a complex sentence with your concise answer)

C – cite evidence from the text (use a quote from the text that supports your answer; use phrases to introduce your quote and the speaker/source of the quote; put quotation marks around the quote and copy the quote exactly as it appears in the text)

E – explain your answer and quote. If there is a secondary question in the prompt, explain your answer to that question. Use details and examples to support your opinion.
