Strategic Planning an Essential Role for Management in Organizations Discussion
I’m working on a health & medical discussion question and need a sample draft to help me learn.
Harrison Text Chapter 3
Now we are getting into the actual steps of building a strategic plan. The first activity is analyzing the environment, inside and outside of the organization. It is important to note how Harrison describes this activity as setting the tone for the entire process on page 79–it’s kind of a foundation for the strategic planning process. What happens here affects the rest of the plan. What attitude/perspective do you think is most important for the players to have at this step?
This first step of the analysis is unique in that some of it can be done with certainty–you can establish what has been done in the past and what the effects/consequences of those actions have been. The difficulty is then trying to see a future instead of “that’s the way it’s always been done.”
Then we get on “shakier” ground with assumptions about the future. Read carefully over the “Trends” section beginning on page 81. Which do you think will impact your career most? Why?
This first activity of strategic planning can result in diverse areas needing attention. How the organization prioritizes these critical areas can be difficult, especially if there are differences of opinion between the administration and medical staff. How do you think these “political turf battles” should be handled? Give perspectives as administration and/or as medical staff.
In your post, give answers to all of the italicized questions/statements listed above.
