St Petersburg College Key Factors for the Stigma of Mental Illness Discussion
I’m working on a health & medical discussion question and need an explanation to help me study.
Feldman and Crandall (2007) assert that the stigma of mental illness can be as harmful as the symptoms and consequences of the illness/disorder. They also note that there is some indication in the literature that the idea of “onset controllability” (that people are able to control the onset of their disease/symptoms or the manifestation of the disorder) seems to play a part in stigma and social rejection in relation to mental illness.
