  • Describe your example of aesthetic exploration.  Is it a work of abstraction or
  • non-objective?  Was the artist of your work affiliated with any particular movement, and if so, how to the goals and ideologies of the movement relate to your chosen work of art? (Be specific and detailed!)

 

  • Describe your example of art as activism or social critique.  What commentary does the artist seem to be making in her/his work?  Is it related to specific historical events or social conditions during the early twentieth century?  Was your artist affiliated with any particular movement and, if so, how does the ideology of that movement correlate with your chosen work? (Be specific and detailed!)

 

  1. Finally, briefly compare and contrast your two chosen works in regards to style and subject matter.

    Write up your argument as a 2-4 page essay and submit it directly to the Unit 6 Blog by copying-and-pasting your text into your post.  Remember to either embed or link to your images.  Do NOT submit an attached Word document as your submission; this will not be accepted.

    This Discussion Board Research Project is worth up to 100 points and will be graded based on the following criteria:

 

  • following all the instructions carefully and completing the assignment correctly
  • the appropriateness of your chosen works of art in regards to the time period and styles you associate them with
  • the veracity and logic of your argument and depth of your analysis
  • how critically and correctly you apply concepts, information, and terminology from this unit
  • the clarity of your thoughts in your writing and organization of your submission
  • using proper spelling and grammar
